Our Globalvia teams in Chile have launched an original project that seeks to reduce the environmental impacts derived from our activity by betting on circularity and efficiency in the use of resources.
Thus, our teams from Autopista del Itata, Autopista del Aconcagua and Costa Arauco, in collaboration with the companies Himce, Recbio and Rubtec, have come together to launch this circular economy initiative that consists of reusing one of the waste that is most generated on our highways, tires, transforming them into 120m2 of recycled cushioning soil.
The worn tires were collected at our three concessions to be subsequently treated and transformed by Himce, a company responsible for waste management, and Recbio, which operates a tire shredding plant in agreement with Rubtec, a company specialized in recycled rubber products.

The new floor already installed in the outdoor space of one of the schools, where the little ones can play and have fun.
In the words of Moisés Vargas, General Manager of Autopista del Itata: “This initiative is in line with Globalvia’s environmental and community relations policies. With this circular economy project, we take the tires that are collected on the road to a company that processes them and turns them into these pads that we install in the different establishments in the cities where we operate”.
Specifically, three schools were selected to receive these recycled surfaces: Primer Agua School in Penco; Pilpilco School in Los Álamos, both in the Biobío region and the Mi Mundo en Colores Kindergarten in Til Til, Metropolitan region. The installation was carried out by volunteers from Globalvia, who worked side by side to give life to these spaces that now offer safety and fun to children.
Initiatives like this show that sustainability and community development can go hand in hand. Transforming waste into useful resources is just one example of how the circular economy can improve communities’ quality of life while protecting the planet.
