During the last few months, our Globalvia Madrid Operations Department has actively participated in the working groups organized by the Railway Innovation Hub (RIH) for the development of a BIM (Building Information Modeling) Railway Classification manual.

RIH’s objective is to promote research, development and innovation in the railway sector through collaborative projects that involve associated companies, which stand out for their extensive knowledge and experience in the sector. With this approach, the will to create a railway BIM classification arises, for its implementation in BIM projects due to the need existing when carrying out new and conditioning projects in a field as specific as that of railway infrastructures.

La BIM methodology, Building Information Modelling, is a methodology that is increasingly implemented thanks to the benefits it offers for asset management throughout its entire life cycle. Based on a collaborative way of working, accessible by the different agents involved, it offers a new and advantageous perspective due to its multidisciplinary control capacity, reducing risks, time and cost. It also contains high potential in the phases of maintenance and exploitation of assets.

The objective of the document, published at the beginning of this year, is to detail the BIM Railway Classification System, which will be available to all promoters who wish to adopt this classification in their railway projects, as well as to all other intervening agents that, by request of client must use this classification system.
