The construction of the anti-tsunami walkway on Autopista Costa Arauco advances successfully

The construction of the Erratchou-El Manco anti-tsunami walkway on our Autopista Costa Aruco, in Chile, is advancing successfully.

At Globalvia, we seek to be part of the solutions that improve the lives of people in the communities in which we operate. For this reason, we responsibly assume the execution of this long-awaited project consisting of a four-meter-wide evacuation bridge on our highway. This anti-tsunami walkway is specially designed to allow the safe flow of the more than 25,000 inhabitants of the Erratchou – El Manco sector of the Coronel commune, in the Biobío region.

A few weeks ago we took a key step in this project with the installation of the main beam, after which the work is now 80% complete. Once completed in the month of June, this walkway will provide a vital evacuation route in the event of flooding in this sector, reinforcing its safety.

Since the earthquake and tsunami occurred on February 27, 2010, this sector was declared as a risk area and, thanks to the encouragement of the prominent local social leader Mili Sepúlveda, the need to have an alternative escape route in the event of this type of emergency was prioritized.

For this reason, the construction of this walkway represents a very important milestone for the risk management and security of the communities in the Biobío region, as it responds to the need to have safe and functional evacuation routes in case of new natural disasters. At Globalvia we believe that a beam not only supports a structure: it can also symbolize the commitment, support and tranquility that we want to provide to the communities where we are present.

We are proud to contribute to this project that improves the resilience of the Biobío region to natural disasters.

We congratulate all the teams involved in the progress of this anti-tsunami walkway!
