On March 13 and 14, a new edition of the European Light Rail Congress, the European congress on metros, light rail, and trams, was held in Seville. This congress brings together the leading operators and companies in the sector at the European level and is organized every year by the British company Mainspring.
This is a very relevant meeting that our Metro de Sevilla team has hosted this year. It coincides with the celebration of its fifteenth year of operation and turns the capital of Seville into the epicenter of the conversation about the future of light rail and sustainable mobility.
The first day of this event began with the institutional opening, with the presence of José María Rivera Zafra, Managing Director of AOPJA, and Globalvia’s Railway Director, Daniel Quintero.
Next, the Congress began with the participation of experts from different entities in exciting presentations. Among them, Clara Lozano (Maintenance Manager) and Gerardo Murillo (Systems Manager) from Metro de Sevilla, participated in the presentation “Digital Transformation: Elevating Employee & Customer Experience at Metro de Sevilla”.
Subsequently, the participants made a technical visit to Metro de Sevilla facilities, including a metro ride and a visit to the warehouse, workshops and central control post. To end the day, the guests enjoyed a pleasant dinner at the Abades Triana Hotel, which was sponsored by Globalvia.
Among the presentations held during the second day, our colleagues from Metro de Sevilla, José Ángel Santos (Director of Technology) and Miguel Ángel Mengual (Director of Maintenance) gave the presentation “Future-Forward Asset Management: Globalvia’s Approach”.
In addition, an interesting panel of experts took place in which we explored how the adoption of light rail can be accelerated in our cities in a net-zero era, and which included the participation of Jorge Maroto, Manager of the Seville Metro.
This new edition of the European Light Rail Congress, which has brought together around 200 attendees, has made possible two enriching days for the exchange of experiences and knowledge between professionals in the sector.
