Ruta 27 and CNFL inaugurate the first multiple rapid charging center for electric vehicles in Central America
07-01-2025

On December 18, our Ruta 27 team celebrated a new milestone with the inauguration and start-up of the first Multiple Rapid Charging Center for electric vehicles in all of Central America, thanks to the alliance with the National Power and Light Company (CNFL) of Costa Rica.

The strategic location of the new charging center on the San Rafael sector of Alajuela, 300 meters west of the San Rafael toll booth on Ruta 27, allows both private and commercial vehicles to have direct and quick access to charging. Currently, 1.2 million vehicles a month transit this point on our Ruta 27 highway, which will be able to access charging in the San José-Cldera direction and vice versa.

This charging center has the types of chargers used by electric vehicles that travel through the country: CHAdeMO, CSS1 (Combo), and GBT. The structure has a roof with photovoltaic cells that generate electricity so that users can charge devices such as phones and laptops, and it has lighting that provides safety during the charging process.

This new public-private alliance, which is another example of our concessionaire Ruta 27’s sustainable and environmental approach, adds up to other projects in this area, such as the installation of solar panels or the change of the lighting system to LED.

In the words of Claudio Pacheco, Manager of Ruta 27: “Sustainability, innovation and customer service are in our DNA and in this project these three components come together. For us, it is an honor to join forces with institutions such as CNFL so that Costa Rica stands out in the region with infrastructures such as those we are inaugurating today. On our own, we have already begun to introduce electric fleets in our operation and we are in the best position to continue contributing and supporting the development of the country in all ways.”

Depending on the growth in demand, the center will be able to add two new charging spaces to reach a total of 5 vehicle charging points.

Congratulations to Ruta 27 for this new milestone that promotes sustainable mobility in Costa Rica!
