With the focus on continuing to improve the day-to-day management and operation of our assets, Globalvia’s Innovation area, together with the Group Companies, is launching the Globalvia Road Challenges 2026.

Through this program, we invite the entrepreneurial ecosystem, universities, research centers, and local technology companies to co-design technological solutions to the strategic challenges identified in our assets.

This first edition of the program begins in two geographies, Portugal and Costa Rica. Our teams have identified the following challenges:

Globalvia Portugal – A23 Beira Interior and A4 Transmontana:

• Challenge 1: Real-time pavement monitoring | A challenge that explores how to monitor and anticipate, in real time, the condition of the pavement and various critical variables (temperature, humidity, snow) in order to improve winter maintenance operations, increase road safety and reduce the carbon footprint generated.
• Challenge 2: Reduction of visual road inspections | A challenge focused on reducing dependence on manual and visual road inspections through digital, automated and data-driven solutions.

Costa Rica – Ruta 27:

• Challenge 1: Development and implementation of solutions for the recovery of waste —especially plastics— generated in the operation of Ruta 27, transforming it into new materials and applications for road infrastructure, with a direct impact on cost reduction, operational improvement and ESG performance.

In a first phase, interested organizations will be able to submit their applications and, after the period established by each Company, the Globalvia Portugal and Ruta 27 teams, together with the Innovation area, will select the finalists. The selected partners will have the opportunity, together with our technical and operational teams, to develop and validate a pilot project on our roads to address the identified challenges. The feasibility and future scalability potential in other geographies and Group assets will also be explored.

Initiatives such as the Globalvia Road Challenges allow us to continue improving and innovating in our assets by bringing together experience and knowledge with new technology partners. They are also an example of projects that respond directly to the needs of our assets and of how we put innovation at the service of our business.
