We join Ángel Mariscal Pepo project to support women victim of gender violence
25-11-2024

Like every November 25, we support the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. From Globalvia, we want to reaffirm our commitment to this mission and join the initiatives that seek to eradicate this terrible and unjust social situation.

For this reason, we are very happy to be able to announce that we have signed a new collaboration agreement with the Ángel Mariscal Association to support the Pepo Project.  This project seeks to help women victims of gender violence through protection dogs and providing them with psychological and judicial support, in cases where the victims report their aggressors. The Association is responsible for assuming the training of the “Pepos”, these protection dogs that become excellent life companions for these women. In the words of Ángel Mariscal, founder of the PEPO Project: “Thanks to that bond that appears with the dog, the woman can lead a normal life again.”

There are currently around 160 protection dogs assigned to vulnerable women thanks to this project, and the Association is training 15 new users and their protection dogs. We are proud to be part of this project that has such a direct impact in the lives of women victims of gender violence.

In addition to this new collaboration agreement, since 2023 at Globalvia Madrid, we have supported the Adecco Foundation in its Women’s Employment program, which seeks to help vulnerable women, including victims of gender violence, to obtain stable employment. As revealed by the data from the latest Gender Violence and Employment Report prepared by the Adecco Foundation with the support of collaborating companies, 80% of women victims of gender violence do not report its aggressor due to their unemployment situation and the insecurity and dependency of this situation generates them.

Data like this demonstrate that employment becomes a key tool for victims to regain control of their lives through economic independence, better self-esteem, and a greater support network.
