From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, Metro de
Sevilla carried a total of 581,162 passengers, making Easter 2014 the highest
passenger use since the service went into operation. The demand increased by 25.59%
compared to the same week in 2013, favoured by the good
weather.
On Palm
Sunday 100,185 passengers used the metro, the highest daily number since April
2009 and 27.1% more than in 2013. On Easter Monday the demand was 90,760 users –
4.59% more than the previous year – and on Easter Tuesday, 90,538, the highest
for that day.
On Easter Wednesday
the metro carried 79.089 passengers, 23.3% more than in 2013, while on Easter
Thursday there was a drop of 13% – 80,330 passengers – compared to the figure
for the previous year.
The number
of passengers recorded on Good Friday this year, a total of 85,992, exceeded
the 2013 figure by 137.72% and also the figures for previous years, making it
the best Good Friday since the metro went into service.
The demand
on Easter Saturday – 36,363 passengers – and on Easter Sunday – 17,896 – days
on which rain was forecast, we together 7% below that of 2013.
The daily
average of passengers during the special Easter week services this year was 72,645
compared to the average of 36,328 for a typical week from Sunday to Sunday and
the 48,311 average for working days.
During the
special Easter week services, line 1 extended its normal hours to 2 a.m., the
time at which the last trains left the line heads – Ciudad Expo and Olivar de
Quintos stations – and in the early hours of Good Friday it provided an
uninterrupted service.
This service
operated without important incidents and represented an increase in the
transport offer of 48% compared to a normal week, with wider coverage and a
train frequency of five minutes in the time bands with the largest number of
users, thanks to the use of four double trains.
The transport
offer was supplemented by an increase of 40% in the presence of Metro personnel
and 108% of security staff to strengthen user attention and to help
non-habitual users of the service.
