13-12-2023

On November 25, iryo celebrated its first anniversary since the “red arrow” began its journey in Spain with the first effective Madrid-Barcelona route.

Twelve months later after this first trip, iryo has accumulated 5 million passengers, 16,000 services offered, and an average occupancy rate on its trains of 66%. In addition, its 20 “Red Arrow” trains that currently make up the fleet, have traveled more than 9 million kilometers in this first year of life throughout the 12 destinations it operates: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza, Seville, Malaga , Cuenca, Córdoba, Alicante, Albacete, Antequera and Tarragona.

Un año de iryo

The beginnings of iryo date back to November 2019, when it was awarded the second of the railway packages offered by Adif in the process of liberalization of the Spanish high-speed railway, becoming the largest Spanish railway operator and reaching a 24% share of market.

With all this, the journey has only just begun! And after this first year in which the brand has positioned itself in the market, the objective for next 2024 is clear, to continue improving all these positive figures. For the following months, the team will face its second phase of growth with determination, adding new destinations such as Galicia and the Mediterranean corridor.

We are happy to be able to make this first positive assessment! And iryo is our commitment to high speed and a new form of mobility that is gaining more weight day by day in the face of market liberalization and is becoming a more sustainable alternative for getting around. iryo also promotes the Spain brand, supporting the culture and talent in our country. Thus, throughout the year it has been the official train for important events such as the Malaga Fair, the Annual Latin Grammy Awards and Valencia Fashion Week.

We hope that iryo continues to set the pace for high speed in Spain!

¡Esperamos que iryo continúe marcando el paso de la alta velocidad en España!
