Our Globalvia Jons team in Ireland has successfully completed the installation of a large structural support on the pier of a bridge crossing the M50 motorway, part of the MMaRC A network (Motorway Maintenance and Renewal Contract). This network serves the Dublin metropolitan area and is the busiest of those operating under this type of contract.

The intervention was the result of several years of monitoring the evolution of cracks detected in the upper section of the pier. After analyzing their behavior, the client, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), commissioned Globalvia Jons to implement the solution through a Works Order.

As project lead, Globalvia Jons took responsibility for safety coordination during the design and construction phases, the development of the technical solution, work planning, and the execution of the corrective works.

To this end, the team worked closely with Jons Civil Engineering, the engineering consultancy Roughan & O’Donovan, and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), with the aim of developing and implementing a structural repair solution to prevent further deterioration of the infrastructure.

The support and its fixing elements were manufactured by Thompsons, a local manufacturer specializing in large metal structures.

The successful completion of this action represents an important milestone for the MMaRC A network and the M50 motorway, as it incorporates a structural solution of this kind to reinforce the integrity and service life of the infrastructure.
